History of Fundraiser-Sales

Alexander Bazazi, then a junior at Boston University, first learned about the Belaku Trust while on an international study abroad program, the International Honors Program (ihp.edu).  While in India, the Executive Director of the Belaku Trust, Dr. Saras Ganapathy, was his homestay mother.  Alex stayed in the same compound where the women’s income generation groups made their products, and when he returned to Boston University in the 2007-2008 academic year, he brought some products to sell on-campus.

Alex held two sales with the Undergraduate Public Health Association (bupublichealth.wordpress.com)-one in December 2007 for Christmas and another in April 2008 for Easter.  His girlfriend, Jeannia Fu, held sales at Brown University.  Together, they raised slightly less than $1,000.

For the 2008-2009 academic year, the Undergraduate Public Health Association held a second Christmas sale led by Alexander Ko at Boston University that raised $1,024.   Kate Laporte, Daniela Macander, Devina Patel, and Alexander Ko held a third set of sales at the Boston University School of Public Health in March and April 2009 that raised $1,604.
